(Hong Kong – November 4, 2024) As an international financial center, Hong Kong actively embraces central policies promoting sustainable development in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, striving to achieve its dual carbon goals. To recognize companies that have excelled in ESG and sustainability over the past year, the Outstanding Awards of ESG 2024 were jointly organized by Hong Kong Commercial Daily, PR Asia, and THINK ESG LIMITED, with Deloitte serving as the intellectual partner.

The awards ceremony was held at the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel, attended by distinguished guests including the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr. CHAN Pak Li, Bernard, JP; the Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr. CHAN Ho Lim, Joseph, JP; Chief Executive Officer of PR Asia, and Chairman of the Award Organizing Committee, Ms. Winnie CHENG; Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of THINK ESG LIMITED, and Co-chairman of the Award Organizing Committee, Mr. Andy CHAN; and the Managing Director of Hong Kong Commercial Daily, Mr. DAI Jie.

In his speech, Dr. Chan Pak Li, Bernard, JP., emphasized that sustainable development is a global trend and that Hong Kong companies possess an international vision and social responsibility in driving sustainability. Mr. CHAN Ho Lim, Joseph, JP noted that as of June this year, Hong Kong has over 230 ESG funds with a total asset management scale exceeding HKD 1.3 trillion, demonstrating the growth potential of ESG investments.

Ms. Winnie CHENG and Mr. Andy CHAN expressed their hope that this award would recognize contributions from various industries toward ESG sustainability and create a communication platform between the government and businesses. Mr. DAI Jie highlighted that companies’ efforts in social responsibility and governance transparency set a positive example for society.

The "Outstanding Awards of ESG" are based on international ESG rating certifications, utilizing the Dun & Bradstreet ESG Registered™ framework as a scoring basis. This framework encompasses various aspects of environmental, social, governance, and sustainable development planning. Evaluation criteria include achievements in shareholder rights, compliance, integrity in business operations, fair competition, corporate social responsibility, transparency, board independence, leadership, and the implementation of ESG initiatives.

To achieve carbon neutrality, the awards ceremony implemented carbon credits that meet international standards, the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism (UNCDM), to pre-offset the carbon emissions generated by the event. The carbon neutrality project for this ceremony was verified by auditors from Riskory Consultancy Limited, involving a biomass cogeneration project in Hebei, China, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting environmental protection.
